Hey, folks!
I'd like to open up applications to come join me here on Staff. The way this is going to work is that we'll have four steps, which will be completed in a sort of open format. Basically, until we find three or four staff members, I'm going to keep apps open and you can start the first step at your leisure up until that point. I'm going to outline the process a bit below for more detail.
1. The initial application. The code for this application can be found at the bottom of this post. Copy it out and PM it to me here on the site once you've finished answering each question. You can submit this at any time while staff applications are open. Once this application has been submitted, you will receive a message from staff with directions and materials for step 2.
2. Profile critiquing. This step must be completed within two week of receiving profiles from staff, barring real life complications and necessary away periods and extensions. You will be receiving two profiles to critique for errors. As some aspects of the site are not yet available to general members, you will also be receiving the profile template and guidelines for PAHL-EU. Things to keep in mind during this phase are thoroughness, adherence to template and tone of the universe, realism, consistency, and above all the tone of your critique. Staff critiques should be professional, kind, and aimed at helping players grow as writers, rather than tear down what they've already created.
3. World-Building and game design. This step must be completed within two week of receiving profiles from staff, barring real life complications and necessary away periods and extensions. You'll be receiving a few questions regarding the world of PAHL and how you can contribute to it, as well as the necessary design features of the game and how you might help staff innovate and grow in future games. Be honest about your capabilities and ideas, and be as thorough or concise as you feel you need to be. This is about getting a good feel for your style and vision for the site.
4. Staff and player interactions. This step must be completed within two week of receiving profiles from staff, barring real life complications and necessary away periods and extensions. This section will be personalized to each member based on their answers to the previous tests. It will focus on presenting you with situations within staff or with the player base that may prove challenging or require your attention as the game goes on. For the best results possible, think hard before answering and try to think as a staff member, a player, and a person in each interaction to get a good feel on where you stand for each one.
That's the process we'll be going through together, should you choose to apply. If any of that looks daunting, don't panic. This is a friendly environment, and neither I nor any other staff members who join the team are here to judge you for anything you say during applications. Just be yourself, answer to the best of your ability, and expect constructive feedback. I'm going to do the best I can to keep the tone of feedback positive and valuable to you, whether you make it onto the team or not.
Best of luck to all who choose to apply!
