Welcome To The Prometheus Academy for Higher Learning! I'm DuckyB, the game's creator and one member of our staff team. I'd like to take some time to introduce you to the site, as far as who we are, what we do, and the general code of conduct around here. If you're interested after reading, make an account if you don't have one, and come join us in the Introductions Thread!
PAHL is a science fantasy role-playing game wherein you create one to two students attending a prestigious institute of secondary education. PAHL takes place in an alternate timeline from our own, which you can read a bit more about here. Don't feel too pressured to keep up with all the world flavor, though. Everything you need to know as a roleplayer will be condensed into a small guide for each version, and staff can field any questions you have as you go. The flavor exists in case you're inclined to read it and dig a little deeper into the world at large, but it is by no means required reading. All you need to know for now is the basic premise!
As a role-playing site, PAHL emphasizes collaborative writing and player interaction to drive the story. You, and your fellow writers, will be creating the bulk of the story and influencing larger events through your actions and reactions. From a game design point of view, PAHL is a PvE, or Player vs. Environment roleplay, meaning that you will be competing against environmental and thematic hazards, rather than strictly against your fellow players. What this means will become clearer as we get into the details for each game, but in general you'll be working collaboratively both In Character and Out Of Character to work around and adjust to mechanics designed by the staff team in any given game.
If you have any questions about the above information, feel free to contact a staff member. For the moment, that's just me, but as we bring on new members I'll update this topic as needed. Now, for a few ground-rules for out of character interactions:
1. To participate in PAHL, you must be at least thirteen years old. We have the potential to deal with some difficult subject matter here, and that's a comfortable cut-off space for me personally to allow folks on the site. This works mostly on an honor system, of course, but it's something to be aware of as you explore the site and invite others to it at your discretion.
2. You never have to disclose personal information to staff or fellow members unless you want to. However, what we will ask is that any information you provide be truthful. Roleplaying sites such as this can be a great source for friendship, personal connections, and even relationships, so it's important that we are honest with each other as a community and don't deceive one another. Try not to mislead staff or other members about anything, whether it's in the game or in your interactions outside of it.
3. Members are allowed one account on the PAHL forum. This is to prevent any confusion regarding who owns what characters, and potential attempts to subvert the character per player cap. If staff discover that a member is in possession of more than one account, it is grounds for an immediate suspension or ban, adjusted at staff discretion.
4. As a general rule, using proxy servers to access the site is not allowed. I've seen this cause trouble in the past on other sites, and I'd prefer to avoid that if possible. If you have extenuating circumstances that require you to use a proxy service to access the site, please let Staff know upon signing up so we can note them and be aware of the issue.
5. Conduct yourself kindly with other members. We want to foster a positive environment here, where we can work together in harmony without issue. If you have a problem with something another player is doing or saying, politely ask them to stop. If the issue continues to escalate, report it to staff with evidence of the behavior, and we'll look into it. While members should feel free to work out issues amongst themselves, if you feel it's going to turn hostile, it's best to back away and ask Staff for mediation. This goes for the site and for the PAHL chatroom.
And a few rules regarding the game itself:
1. All characters must be approved by staff before being handled in pre-game or the game itself.
2. Never act for other characters in your scenes without the permission of their writers. This includes writing dialogue, affecting the characters physically, or making them move or act within your posts. This is known as "god-modding" and can cause a great deal of trouble if you do something other players do not approve of with their characters, and it's considered courteous to discuss any and all actions that would influence another character directly with their player before you post them.
That's all for now. This section is subject to change as needed later on. Enjoy your time here, and feel free to message myself or any other members of staff mentioned within this topic for assistance if needed!
